Tigers dealt loss against Amite County, 14-8

LIBERTY — Amite County quarterback Quavonte Adams provided both of the Trojans’ touchdowns as they rallied from an early deficit to defeat the reeling Jefferson County Tigers 14-8 Friday night.
Adams scored on a 63-yard run near the end of the first quarter and threw a three-yard touchdown pass to Darrion Robinson with 6:06 to go in the third quarter, which proved to be the game-winning score.
For the second consecutive week, MHSAA Class 3A Jefferson County struggled against an opponent from Class 2A. Against the Trojans, the Tigers managed just 208 yards of total offense and 10 first downs.
Junior quarterback Rah’Kendrick Reynolds had the majority of the Tigers’ offense. He led the team in rushing with 22 yards on seven carries and completed 11 of 21 passes for 169 yards and one interception.
Reynolds scored on a one-yard run and ran in on the two-point conversion with 6:04 to go in the first quarter to Jefferson County an 8-0 lead. James Claiborne was the team’s leading receiver. No statistics were provided for Claiborne.
Jefferson County (1-4) has next Friday off before starting Division 7-3A action at longtime rival Port Gibson on Oct. 2.
