VIDALIA — A thief reportedly broke into an attorney’s office on Carter Street after hours and stole three guns.
Philip LeTard Sr. said he called the Vidalia Police Department Saturday after he discovered his office had been burlarized.
A safe in the office was forced open, LeTard said, but no legal documents were taken. A pistol was taken from the safe, and two other guns were taken from the office.
“As far as I know, the only things missing were the guns,” LeTard said.
Assistant Chief Bruce Wiley said only one of the four offices in the building was broken into.
“We think they broke in and came in through the bathroom window,” Wiley said.
LeTard said a square of glass from the window in the men’s bathroom had been broken.
“The window was open,” LeTard said. “There was mud on the toilet seat where they climbed through the window and stepped onto the toilet seat before they stepped onto the ground.”
Wiley said the burglary is under investigation.
