BROOKHAVEN — De’Martre Collins accounted for two touchdowns and Franklin County’s defense held Loyd Star to under 100 yards of total offense as the Bulldogs crushed the Hornets 34-0 Friday night.
Collins had four carries for 64 yards, two catches for 88 yards and a touchdown, and a 67-yard punt return for a touchdown early in the second quarter.
“He had some yards in all phases – return yards, rushing and catching,” Bulldogs head coach Anthony Hart said.
Meanwhile, their defense was stout from the beginning of the game to the final whistle. Loyd Star was limited to five first downs and 96 yards of total offense. The Hornets also turned the ball over three times and punted eight times.
“Defense played well. We took the starters out after the third quarter and gave our young players a chance,” Hart said. “About all of (their offense) was on our subs.”
Franklin County quarterback Jacob McDaniel also had a solid game. He was 4-for-9 passing for 119 yards, including a 69-yard TD pass to Collins just 52 seconds into the ball game. He added a 23-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.
“I thought he played good tonight. He did better on some of his reads,” Hart said.
La’darius Norman and Keonte’ Bee had short touchdowns runs for the Bulldogs in the first half and went into the locker room up 28-0.
There was one thing Hart was not too pleased with – the nine penalties for 80 yards.
“I had a feeling we were going to have a lot of penalties. We’ve been averaging only four penalties a game. It’s hard to explain.”
