NATCHEZ — After falling to Jackson Prep 49-17 Friday, Cathedral High School had a “come to Jesus” meeting Monday.
After not improving since the opening week, according to head coach Ron Rushing, Cathedral went through a grueling workout to try and sharpen the team’s focus.
“Let’s just say Monday and Tuesday weren’t very fun,” Rushing said. “We quit working two weeks ago, and that’s not to take anything away from Jackson Prep. If we played them five time, they would beat us five times.”
Still, despite the lopsided loss, Rushing and his staff took a lot of positives away from the first loss of the season.
“We outgained them in the first half, and without those pick sixes, we’re probably ahead at halftime,” Rushing said. “I was just displeased with the posture and demeanor in the second half. We didn’t have good body language, and we’ve been working on getting a little passion back. I want to see them playing with more emotion.”
As Cathedral tries to get back to its winning ways, the Green Wave welcome in a Brookhaven Academy team that is 0-3 on the season. Coming off of a 48-7 loss to Centreville Academy, Brookhaven Academy comes into the game against Cathedral desperate for a win.
“They throw the ball and they run, but they probably throw it more,” Rushing said. “They have some good skill guys who can catch the ball.”
Cathedral (2-1) will host Brookhaven Academy at 7 p.m. Friday.
