NATCHEZ — Services for Melvin Sanders Sr., 85, of Roxie, who died Thursday, Aug. 27, 2015, at his residence, will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Pilgrim Baptist Church with the Rev. Melvin White officiating.
Burial will follow at the Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.
Mr. Sanders was born May 16, 1930, in Mississippi, the son of John Sanders and Eula Mae Brown.
He served as an active member of the Laborers International Union of America for 53 years.
Mr. Sanders was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Melvin Sanders Jr. and Willie J. Sanders; one sister, Lulu B. Payton; and one brother, Lloyd Alfred Sanders.
Survivors include a loving and devoted wife of 46 years, Girlee Sanders; one son, Lloyd Leon Sanders; one stepson, Charles Dunn and wife, Gwendolyn; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a very special longtime friend and extended family member, Velma S. Wesley, who was kind enough to help him with his four sons after the loss of his first wife; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
