VIDALIA — A Vidalia man claiming to be a preacher was arrested Wednesday on charges of fraud, or in his case, allegedly breaking one of the 10 commandments — “thou shalt not steal.”
David E. Vaughn, 54, 400 Miller St., was arrested on two counts of felony theft by fraud and one count of resisting arrest with force.
Vernon Stevens, public information officer for the Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office, said Vaughn was allegedly knocking on people’s doors, claiming he was a preacher and would do household repairs.
After receiving payment upfront, Vaughn would leave the property and never perform the work.
“We know he’s done this to two people in the area, but we think there might be more,” Stevens said.
Stevens asked if anyone else believes Vaughn approached them that they contact CPSO Sgt. Randy Lipscomb at 318-336-9148.
