NATCHEZ — The Adams County Christian School Lady Rebel soccer team found themselves in an all too familiar spot just four minutes into their game against Laurel Christian Tuesday — trailing.

But, after recording their first win in program history against Laurel Christian just a few weeks ago, the Lady Rebels took a different approach to the deficit and were able to rally to a 3-1 victory.

“We came out a little bit shaky and they put the ball in the back of the net early,” ACCS head coach Jimmy Allgood said. “But for us being down 1-0, our girls regrouped and got their focus back and we got back on track. They attacked, trapped and played like they were supposed to.”

After the Lady Rebels drew a foul about 30 yards out from the Laurel Christian goal, Allgood hollered for striker Jordan Parker to take the free kick.

“This young lady has been learning to kick since the sixth grade and somewhere around the eighth grade, I saw that she could kick a ball fantastically from 30-out,” Allgood said.

Parker approached the ball and drove her foot into it, launching it over the Laurel Christian goalkeeper’s head and into the back of the net.

“That was one of the most beautiful 30-yard shots that I’ve seen,” Allgood said. “For it to hit middle shelf, top window, that is skyscraper pretty.”

The goal sparked a fuse in the ACCS offense and the Rebels went to work the rest of the game.

ACCS caught a break in the 26th minute with a handball called on Laurel Christian in the box, awarding ACCS a penalty kick. Parker converted from the spot to push the lead to 2-1 heading into halftime.

Shortly into the second half, Laurel Christian looked to equalize on a penalty they were awarded, but the shot hit the crossbar and was saved by the ACCS keeper.

Parker struck again minutes later on a goal from inside the Laurel Christian box to cap the scoring at 3-1. It was Parker’s second hat-trick in as many games.

“When she is at the game level she can play at, it is very fun and amazing to watch,” said Allgood of Parker.

Allgood said the win is huge for his team heading into the second half of the season.

“This is the first time ever in our history that we are sitting alone at the top of the heap in first place midway through the season,” Allgood said. “For our girls to be here at this point, I couldn’t be more proud.”

With the win, ACCS improved to 5-1 overall and to 5-0 in district play.
