NATCHEZ — Ashleigh Williams held Centreville Academy to just four hits in a complete-game performance while Brianna Henson and Shelby Mason had three hits each as the Adams County Christian School Lady Rebels defeated the Lady Tigers 9-2 Tuesday afternoon.
This non-district game went five innings and Williams went the distance, giving up two runs — both in the top of the fourth inning — to go with three strikeouts and just two walks. It was one of her best outings on the mound this season.
“I thought Ashleigh did good. She threw a lot of strikes. She got ahead of the count. Those created a lot of ground balls. She did a good job hitting her spots tonight,” ACCS head coach Rick Fife said.
Add to that a defense that is steadily improving as the season goes on. ACCS committed just one error in this game after having none in a win over Brookhaven Academy just 24 hours earlier.
“I thought the defense played good. We made the routine plays. We made a couple of great plays,” Fife said.
ACCS was only ahead 3-2 with time winding down in the game, but the Lady Rebels had the honors of batting in the bottom of the fifth inning. And they responded in a big way with six runs for the game’s outcome.
Mason finished 3-for-4 with a double and Henson also went 3-for-4. Jordan Petty was 2-for-3.
“In the latter inning, I was happy with the adjustments we made at the plate. We had several solid hits in the fifth,” Fife said. “Even some of the hitters that did not have hits, they hit the ball hard, especially in the fifth.”
Centreville head coach Julie Carmichael was disappointed in how the game ended, but not in the way her team played against a good Lady Rebels team.
“It was 13 minutes left, and we had to play the bottom of the fifth. They scored six runs and then they (the umpires) called the game,” Carmichael said. “We played well. We stayed together. We worked hard. We played hard. But we played against a team that plays all year long. They’ve got pitching and we don’t.”
Riley Allen was charged with the loss for the Lady Tigers. In her five innings, she allowed nine runs on nine hits. Despite that, she pitched two scoreless innings to give them a chance to get back in the game before the bottom of the fifth took place.
ACCS took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning before Centreville tied the game in the top of the fourth. The Lady Rebels took the lead for good with one run in the bottom of the fourth.
Centreville (no record available) next plays at the Parklane Tournament on Saturday. ACCS (7-8) plays at Amite School Center today with the varsity game to take place at 6:15 p.m.

VIDALIA — About 24 hours after Trinity Episcopal head coach Miranda Smith said the Lady Saints were making progress in a close loss to Cathedral, they had just two hits in a 12-0 loss to the Amite School Center Lady Rebels Tuesday afternoon at the Concordia Recreation District 3 Complex.
This MAIS District 4-AA contest did not get off to a good start for Trinity Episcopal and pitcher Tali Beard. Amite School Center jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning and that took a lot of the air out of the Lady Saints.
Trinity had just two hits in the game, one of which was a double by Beard, who took the loss on the mound.
The visiting Lady Rebels from Liberty scored one run each in the top of the second and third innings to push their lead to 6-0. They put the game away with three runs in the top of the fourth inning and three more in the top of the sixth that gave them a 12-0 advantage and put the mercy rule in effect.
Trinity Episcopal (0-11-1, 0-4) does not play again until Tuesday, Sept. 1 when it travels to Vicksburg to play district foe Porter’s Chapel Academy. Game time for the varsity game is 6:30 p.m.
