NATCHEZ — Shortly after the unofficial vote count Tuesday night showed that Travis Patten won the runoff in the Democratic primary runoff for Adams County sheriff, Independent candidate Elvis Prater announced that he was pulling out of the race. Prater’s action open the way for Patten to become the first black sheriff for Adams County since Reconstruction. Vote totals are unofficial and do not count 453 absentee ballots cast in the Democratic primary runoff.
