NATCHEZ — The manslaughter trial for a Natchez woman accused in a fatal stabbing has been moved to November.

The trial was scheduled to start Wednesday. However, Circuit Judge Forrest “Al” Johnson said the trial was moved because defendant Lavonda Darcell Jackson’s attorney requested more time.

The case is now scheduled for Nov. 12, the next court term, and will have precedence, Johnson said.

Jackson is accused in the July 2014 stabbing death of Tere McGraw.

At the time of the incident, Natchez Police officials said McGraw allegedly confronted Jackson in a physical manner after the two had been drinking.

During the altercation, Jackson allegedly took a butcher’s knife and stabbed McGraw in the chest.

McGraw was pronounced dead at the scene.

An Adams County grand jury indicted Jackson last November on a charge of manslaughter for her alleged role in the matter.

The indictment meant the grand jury affirmed enough evidence existed to warrant a case.
