LAKE JACKSON— Services for Sandra Beth Bender Townsend, 65, of Lake Jackson, Texas, who passed away Friday, Aug.14, 2015, will be held Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2015 at 10 a.m. at Ferriday First Baptist Church, officiated by Bro. Josh Morea.
Visitation will be today, Aug. 17, 2015 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Young’s Funeral Home, Ferriday.
Sandra was born and raised on Lake St. John and lived there as an adult for many years. As a child and into adulthood she loved horses. Her horse “Dusty” was her best friend as a little girl and she even did a bit of barrel racing. Life on Lake St John was very special to her for all the activities available while also offering a beautiful serenity she cherished.
She was a devoted wife of her beloved husband, Kenneth Townsend, for 47 years. Sandra loved to go camping with Kenneth and her children Anita and Woody. She was so happy to see and spend time with her family and friends. Sandra faced tremendous challenges in her life and her courage and strength to push through those challenges were an inspiration and an example for all those that were privileged to know her.
Sandra was preceded in death by her parents, Aline Wiley Bender and Woody Judson Bender Jr.; and her beloved grandparents “Pops” and “Stelle”.
Survivors include husband Kenneth Ray Townsend of Lake Jackson, Texas; daughter Anita Lynn Townsend Brewer and husband Gerald “Jay” Brewer Jr. of League City, Texas; son Woody Ray Townsend and wife, Jenny, of Natchez; sisters Seresa Corbin and husband, Bill, of Baton Rouge; Ann Miller and husband, Randy, of Ferriday; grandchildren Heather Gilliam and husband, Daniel, of Corpus Christi; Holly Johnson and husband, Nick, of League City; Josh Brewer of League City; Mckaylin Townsend of Viscksurg; Woody “Everitt” Townsend of Vickburg; and Landrieu Townsend of Vicksburg. Sandra was also survived by four great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be grandsons Josh Brewer, Daniel Gilliam, Nick Johnson and brother-in-laws Steve Townsend, Randy Miller and Bill Corbin.
