Despite the heat, Miss-Lou residents were still out and about making moves last week. Let’s take a moment to give a pat on the back to all those who accomplished something great.

4While summer is definitely still in full swing, last week signaled the start of a new school year for many. Cathedral School and Trinity Episcopal School opened their doors to countless students — all ready to learn. We thank teachers and school administrators who have undoubtedly worked hard to prepare for a successful 2015-2016 school year. Let’s make this year the most productive one yet.

4Amidst the crowds of voters last week, three young women saw the primary election from a different point of view. Amelia Conn, 20; Julia Devening, 18 and Michaela Pollard, 18 were busy answering last-minute voter questions on Election Day. The three have worked in the city clerk’s office this summer learning the ropes of local politics, and what goes into casting a vote. We thank the clerk’s office for affording this great opportunity for these young adults.

4We thank all 9,370 county and city residents who voted in the primary elections last week. City and county governments work best when there is an informed electorate, and residents willing to make their voices heard. As we approach the Aug. 25 primary runoff election and later the Nov. 3 election, we encourage more community members to cast their vote.

As another warm week begins, we encourage residents to stay cool — and stay productive.
