NATCHEZ — The weather was perfect for tennis, and local tennis players came out in force to Duncan Park to participate in the annual Cathedral Fall Festival Tennis Tournament.

Tournament director Suzan Hogue said approximately 65 people are participating in this year’s tournament, which is up from last year.

“We have a really good turnout this year,” Hogue said. “We had a great day. There was a high chance of rain, but we didn’t get any. The weather was absolutely perfect for tennis.”

The tournament went all day long Saturday and will wrap up today.

Matches will begin at 9 a.m. at Duncan Park and should finish around 2:30 p.m.

Two divisions finished their matches on Saturday, with the team of Lisa Dale and Fayla Guedon winning the Women’s 3.0 doubles championship and the team of Shannon Church and Emily Flaccomio winning the Women’s 2.5 doubles championship.

All other matches will finish up today.

The tournament is part of Cathedral’s annual Fall Festival fundraiser. Proceeds from the tournament will go to help fund Cathedral School.

Hogue said the tournament hopes to raise a couple of thousand dollars for the school when all is said and done.

“We had a great turnout and have some great sponsors,” Hogue said. “With sponsor donations and local participation, we hope to raise quite a bit.”

And the most important thing, other than raising money for Cathedral, was the fact that everyone had a good time, Hogue said.

“We had a lot of good competition within our divisions,” Hogue said. “Everybody had a really good time, as we always do in this tournament. It’s laid back and everybody knows everybody. It’s really a fun, fun tournament.”
