Laforest George

COLLIERVILLE, Tenn. — Services for Laforest Aloysius “Laf” George, 61, of Collierville, Tenn., who died Thursday, July 29, 2015, were Saturday, Aug. 1, 2015, at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors in Tueplo.

A private family graveside service followed at Zion Cemetery in Pontotoc County under the direction of the funeral home.

Mr. George was born July 20, 1954, in Natchez, the son of Vernon and Mildred Robbins George.

He was a long-time resident of Tupelo and at the time of his death he was a resident of Collierville. He was an active member of his beloved Grace Crossing Church. He enjoyed a career in sales and marketing.

Laf was a 1972 graduate of South Natchez High School where he lettered in football and tennis and was a member of the Order of Demolay and a graduate of the University of Mississippi in social work. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Laf George was larger than life. Any and all that encountered him could see his childlike spirit and giving nature emanating through his smile and infectious laughter. An exceptional man with the biggest heart, he saw the need in others and if possible would fulfill that need. He always believed there were two types of people in the world, givers or takers. Laf was a giver who never met a stranger in his life. While living in Tupelo, he was very active in philanthropy, Boy Scouts of America and served as a Gum Tree Festival organizer.

He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoyed all things nature and served as state president of Ducks Unlimited. But his biggest love was for his family and his pets.

Mr. George was preceded in death by his parents; one stepson, Charles Austin Little; two brothers, Vernon F. George and Joseph T. George; and one nephew, Faris George.

Survivors include his wife of 21 years, Jane Duckworth George; one son, Laforest Andrew George of Myrtle; one sister, Melody George Logan and husband, Rob, of Clinton, and their children, Lee, Alex, Reese and Kaitlin; one brother-in-law, Sam Duckworth and wife, Linda, and their children, Emily and Laura; one niece, Elizabeth George Crnkovich; and two nephews, Ryan Stateler and Brandon Stateler and wife, Kristen.

Pallbearers were his son, Andrew George, nephews, Lee Logan, Alex Logan, brother-in-law, Sam Duckworth, friends, David Reynolds and Kirk Goza.

Honorary pallbearer was nephew, Reese Logan.
