NATCHEZ — One man was shot in the chest and another had a bullet graze his ear Sunday night during a robbery at a residence on Purnell Street in Natchez.
Natchez Police Detective Jerry Ford said a group of men were at the home playing a dice game when someone knocked on the back door of the residence.
“A guy got up to see who was there and found two guys standing outside with masks on pointing a gun at him,” Ford said.
One masked gunman entered the home while the other stayed behind to secure the back of the home.
“One gunman entered the house and demanded all the money. While he was pointing the gun at one guy, the guy kind of pushed the gun away from him. The masked man shot one man in the chest and then shot another guy, but only grazed him behind the ear,” he said.
The victim who was shot in the chest was transported to University Medical Center in Jackson where he is in stable condition Monday, Ford said. The other victim was treated and released from a Natchez hospital, he said.
No arrests have been made in the incident.
“No one could identify who the suspects were at the time,” Ford said.
Witnesses said the men ran off toward Martin Luther King Jr. Street. However, no one knows if they men got in a vehicle or continued from there on foot.
