HATTIESBURG — For the second straight day, the Natchez 6-and-under Dixie Youth T-ball All-Stars went 1-1 at the Dixie Youth World Series, losing to a team from Louisiana Saturday morning before defeating a team from Texas in the afternoon.
No final score was given in Natchez’s loss to the team from Louisiana, but head coach Brandon Atkins said his team didn’t exactly play its best baseball in that game.
“We didn’t the breaks. But they’re a really good team. They deserve to be the number one seed in our pool for sure,” Atkins said.
With its season on the line, Natchez came through in a big way against the team from Texas in a 14-6 win. With that win, Natchez ended up as one of three tiebreaker teams to determine second place in its pool.
“We played awesome. We had to win and hold them to as few runs as possible and we did,” Atkins said. “We turned several double plays. We hit the ball well.”
Natchez came in second in its pool and, out of the four teams remaining, will be the No. 4 overall seed. It will take on the No. 1 overall seed, which Atkins said will probably be a team from Alexandria, La., today at 10 a.m.
“At worst, we’ll place fourth in the World Series,” Atkins said. “If we beat them, we have a chance to win the whole thing.”
Atkins added that he is pleased with the way the Natchez 6-and-under T-ball All-Stars are performing in this tournament.
“These boys are playing their hearts out. They’re representing Natchez very well. I’m proud of them for what they’re doing,” Atkins said.
