Robert Alton Marler

NATCHEZ —Services for Robert Alton Marler, 88, of Natchez, who died Saturday, July 18, 2015, at Merit Health Natchez, will be 11 a.m. Tuesday July 21, 2015, at Parkway Baptist Church with the Rev. Ken Marler and the Rev. Jeff Brewer officiating.

Visitation will be 10 a.m. Tuesday until service time at the church.

Mr. Marler was born Feb. 24, 1927, in Martinsville to Robert Earl Marler and Hilda Honea Marler.

Mr. Marler served in the U.S. Navy at the end of World War II. Following an honorable discharge, he went to Copiah-Lincoln Community College and finished his accounting degree at Mississippi State University in 1950. He married the love of his life, Arlene Marler, and began his career with International Paper Company as an accountant and later being promoted to administrative director.

He was actively involved with his family and community throughout his life. He was involved with his four sons’ lives through activities such as Boy Scouts, Dixie Youth Baseball and various other events. Mr. Marler served on the board of directors for Natchez Building and Loan and Britton and Koontz Bank, president of Chamber of Commerce and secretary of the Lions Club. He also served at Parkway Baptist Church as a deacon and chairman of the special building committee for the current sanctuary.

Parkway Baptist Church held a special place in his heart. Mr. Marler loved serving the Lord by being involved and serving as the church needed him. He had a great love for fishing, woodworking and gardening.

Mr. Marler was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Grace Arlene Marler of Natchez; four sons, Kenneth Alton Marler and wife, Jan, of Franklin, Tenn., Robert Max Marler and wife, Teresa, of Hendersonville, Tenn., Phillip Newton Marler and wife, Renee’ of Coos Bay, Ore., and Bradley Joel Marler and wife, Suzanne, of Zachary, La.; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be sent to Parkway Baptist Church building fund.
