FERRIDAY — Services for Mattie Elizabeth Ames, 75, of Monterey, who died Thursday, July 16, 2015, at Columns Nursing Home in Jonesville, will be 1 p.m. today at Young’s Funeral Home Chapel in Ferriday with the Rev. John Rushing officiating.

Burial will follow at the Oswalt Cemetery in Lismore, La., under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home.

Mrs. Ames was born July 19, 1939, in Monterey, the daughter of Herman and Laura S. Ferrell.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, J.D. Ames; two grandsons, Bill Barnes and Mathew Whitehead; and one brother, Herman “Buddy” Ferrell.

Survivors include one son, Jeff D. Ames Jr. and wife, Dorothy; three daughters, Sherri A. Little and husband, Bobby, Liz Whitehead and husband, Allan, and Trissie Pennington and husband, Sherman, all of Monterey, 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one brother, Theo Ferrell and wife, Billie, of Belle Chase, La.; one sister, Virginia “Bea” Watson of Monterey; one brother-in-law, Charles “Bubba” Ames of Lismore; and a number of nieces, nephews and other children that she opened up her home to.

Pallbearers will be J.D Ames, Nick Herring, David “Bud” Pennington, Garrett Tisdale, Trey King and Ethan Allen.

Honorary pallbearers will be Brad Adams, Dustin Tillman, Joseph Franklin, John Farris, Brad New, Allan Whitehead, Bobby Little, Sherman Pennington, Donnie Gene Ferrell, Bubba Ames, Bo Hardy and Lil Bart Schneider.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Natchez Children’s Home.
