Kinetic mobile workshop
The Natchez Art Association will lead a kinetic mobile workshop for beginners on Friday from noon to 5 p.m.
Carolyn Weir, administrator with the Natchez Art Association, will be teaching. Spots are limited to four students.
“The creation of a mobile is very detailed and I have to be able to give each and every person detailed instruction,” Weir said.
The sculpture will be about 24 by 24 inches.
Cost is $50 for Art Association members and $80 for non-members. Everyone who is interested can register on skysetter.com.
Summer Olympics 2015
For all those Olympians out there, the Fayette Community Service Organization opens its 2015 Summer Olympics Friday.
Events run Friday and Saturday from 10:30 a.m. until around 3 p.m. both days. Free registration begins at 8 a.m. both days in the Jefferson County Elementary School gymnasium.
“The whole event is to encourage, promote and increase natural physical activity,” Janell Edwards, executive director of the Fayette Community Service Organization, said.
Activities are available for all ages, including hula-hoop and jump rope contests, basketball and other activities.
“The winner receives a cash prize and two numbered tickets,” Edwards said.
“But every participant, everyone who participates, gets a ticket.”
Tickets can also be acquired from educational activities happening throughout the event. The tickets can be entered into a raffle, giving participants a chance to win bicycles of all sizes, including tricycles.
