NATCHEZ — Adams County Christian School head baseball coach Matthew Freeman vividly remembers his days on the high school diamond, and now, he is hoping to bring back some of the fun for past local players in an alumni baseball tournament.

“I’m still young and love the game and want to play myself,” Freeman said. “I know I have a bunch of friends that were good growing up, and I jokingly talked about doing this at a church league softball game, and everybody said that if I did a tournament, they’ll play.”

So Freeman began gathering as many as he could in hopes of forming teams from as many Miss-Lou schools as possible.

“I’ve been getting a lot of positive feedback,” he said. “There are still people out there that have played that may still not know about it.”

Freeman said he has solid commitments from quite a few people.

“A Cathedral team sent me confirmation, ACCS will have a team, Vidalia and Trinity,” Freeman said. “I’d like for Natchez High to get a team in as well. I’ve also had a couple of friends from Brookhaven say they may get a team together, but that is still in the air.”

Freeman said once the wheels began turning, a lot of people jumped on board.

“People are very interested,” he said. “It’s not everyday you can get in a pickup game of baseball. Most guys haven’t played a real game since high school or college, and this will be something fun for everyone.”

The tournament will be played at ACCS on Saturday, July 25, beginning in the morning.

“I’m just hoping nobody gets injured, and we can all come out here and have a good time,” Freeman said.
