Lange named to Baseball American freshman team

BATON ROUGE — LSU right-hander Alex Lange has been named to the Baseball America magazine first-team Freshman All-America squad.
Lange posted a 12-0 record in 2015 with a 1.97 ERA in 114 innings for the Tigers. In 17 starts, he recorded 131 strikeouts and limited opponents to a .212 cumulative batting average.
Lange culminated the year with a complete-game victory over Cal State Fullerton in the College World Series. He limited the Titans to three runs on six hits in nine innings with two walks and 10 strikeouts.
In three NCAA Tournament appearances – including the regional, super regional and CWS – Lange was 2-0 with a 2.08 ERA in 26 innings, recording 33 strikeouts and limiting opponents to a .222 batting average.
The Lee’s Summit, Mo., native has also been voted 2015 National Freshman Pitcher of the Year and SEC Freshman of the Year, and he has received first-team All-America and first-team All-SEC recognition.
LSU has produced 10 Freshman All-Americans in coach Paul Mainieri’s nine-season tenure, including Lange, pitcher Jared Poche’ (2014), outfielder Jake Fraley (2014), shortstop Alex Bregman (2013), pitcher Aaron Nola (2012), second baseman JaCoby Jones (2011), pitcher Kurt McCune (2011), pitcher Matty Ott (2009), catcher Micah Gibbs (2008) and outfielder Blake Dean (2007).
