JONESVILLE — The Block High School Bears are in search for their next head football coach.
After resigning and heading to Peabody High School to become their head coach, Benny Vault Jr.’s place as the head man at Block opened, and principal Jeffrey Odon hopes to fill it as quickly as possible.
“We opened up advertisement Thursday and we will close the application process June 25 at 5 p.m.,” Odom said. “We will take resumes from there and the superintendent and I will sit down and pick the best person for the job. We want to do this quickly with football coming up, but for right now we have the kids in the weight room and conditioning with the assistant coaches.”
Odom said the school is looking for someone to take Block to new heights.
“Block has a lot of athletes,” Odom said. “We want to find somebody that can take this program to another level.”
As for Vault, he said he is looking forward to the next chapter in his coaching career.
“I feel great,” he said. “This is a great opportunity for me. (Peabody) has a lot going on there. I met with the kids last week and there are some great athletes.”
Along with Vault, a new playbook will be heading to Alexandria.
“Two-tight, double wing baby, and a 4-2-5 defense,” Vault said. “We have a great quarterback and he is excited about the offense. We’ve got some stud running backs and they saw how well it works.”
Vault takes over a Peabody team that finished 8-4 last season with a 4-1 mark in district play.
