NATCHEZ — The sounds of crickets, the feel of a soft wind and the sights of jumping fish are all friends Brandy Ellis and Sandra Haynes need to enjoy a Saturday afternoon.
Instead of running errands around town Saturday, Ellis and Haynes decided to spend their day fishing in the country in a pond off Airport Road
They started fishing at the pond approximately two months ago when they first heard about its existence. The pond is on private property, however, the owner allows people to fish as long as they pick up their trash, Ellis said.
“I love (fishing at the pond), there’s not too many people, it’s quiet and there’s lots of shade,” Ellis said.
Ellis said she’s been fishing since her grandmother taught her when she was a little girl.
“I like to catch the fish,” Ellis said.
“The bigger the fish, the more excited I am.”
Although Ellis and Haynes hadn’t caught anything in the first hour they’d been there, they weren’t too discouraged and both agreed that they just liked being outside and enjoying the peacefulness.
They planned to stay another four hours and afterwards take their catches home and have them for dinner.
