Sam Gause/The Natchez Democrat — Susan Callon and her pet Maltipoo Pebbles, above, will welcome guests to their lake house, below, on Lake St. John June 20 for the third annual Lake St. John Natchez-Adams County Humane Society fundraiser.

The animals of the Miss-Lou need your help, and the Natchez-Adams County Humane Society is offering the opportunity to lend a paw, er, a hand.

The third annual Lake St. John NACHS fundraiser will be from 6 to 8 p.m., June 20 at Susan Callon’s lake house.

The address is 5565 U.S. 568, but Callon had another set of directions for those who may not know exactly where that is.

“What I usually tell people is to take a left at the Duck’s Nest and go 2.4 miles,” Callon said. “The house is on the right. Look for the sunflowers on the gate, because this is a sunflower party.”

In previous years the party has boasted an alligator theme and simply a lake theme.

Callon said anyone who would like to come is welcome to attend the event.

Callon said there is a $25 donation per person to attend the party. The entrance fee buys access to a buffet of country cooking, access to a cash bar and the opportunity to bid in silent auctions.

NACHS President Kathy Fitch said all money earned during the fundraiser will be used to help out the animals at the shelter.

“Right now we have a very high census of shelter pets, and there are more coming in each day,” Fitch said. “That means that the cost to provide housing, food, medical supplies including vaccines and the hands-on care these animals need is astronomic, but that care is necessary if we want to give these pets a chance to find a forever home.”

NACHS Vice President Sue Stedman said aside from covering daily expenses, the funds earned from this event will go toward purchasing kennels and cat condos for the humane society’s new facility.

Stedman said a dog kennel costs $1,400 and a cat condo costs $530, and a plaque will be placed on the crate either in honor of the donator or someone they specify.

It will cost approximately $190,000 to get all the kennels and condos needed to house the pets at the shelter, and Stedman said she hopes this event will bring in about $10,000 toward that cost.
