NATCHEZ Cities mean business. That’s the mantra for this year’s Mississippi Municipal League Conference, which four Natchez aldermen are attending.

The conference will be in Biloxi June 22 through June 24.

Ward 1 Alderwoman Joyce Arceneaux-Mathis, Ward 2 Alderman Ricky Gray, Ward 3 Alderwoman Sarah Carter Smith and Ward 4 Alderman Tony Fields will join more than 3,000 elected officials, employees and legislators from across the state at the conference.

“This year’s conference will be on trade,” Arceneaux-Mathis said. “Most of the conference will be dedicated to developing downtown businesses, retail, branding downtown and economic growth for the city and community.”

A few skills aldermen will learn at the conference include developing grant-writing skills, learning how to incorporate better Internet practices into smaller communities and networking with other municipal leaders.

This conference is one of two that the Mississippi Municipal League annually hosts.

“We’re looking forward to bringing back great ideas to the city,” Arceneaux-Mathis said.
