ROXIE — Services for John Allan Whitehead, 80, of Roxie, who died Thursday, June 11, 2015, at his residence, will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Roxie Baptist Church with the Rev. Jamie Wallace, the Rev. Van Windom and the Rev. Justin D’Avy officiating.
Burial will follow at the Roxie Cemetery under the direction of Franklin Funeral Home in Meadville.
Visitation will be at 2 p.m. until service time Sunday at the church.
Mr. Whitehead was born Oct. 11, 1934, in Roxie, the son of Ray Alexandra and Pauline Farr Whitehead.
He was a retired accountant from Colt Entergy. He also served his country in the U.S. Navy.
Mr. Whitehead was a lifetime member and deacon of the Roxie Baptist Church. He was a member and past Master of the SB Stampley Lodge No. 222, a 33rd degree Shriner of the Scottish Rite and a Royal Arch Mason.
Mr. Whitehead was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Harold Ray Whitehead.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley McMillan Whitehead; one son, Allan Keith Whitehead and wife, Stacy, of Roxie; two daughters, Janine Whitehead D’Avy and husband, Terry, of Roxie and Tiffany Whitehead White and husband, Eric, of West Monroe, La.; one sister, Ann Whitehead Smallwood and husband, Carroll, of Slidell, La.; four grandchildren, Molly Whitehead, Katie Whitehead, Justin D’Avy and Brayden White; and a number of nieces, nephews and friends.
Pallbearers will be Ricky Whitehead, Allan Whitehead, Dan Smallwood, Tommy Combs, Tony Mullins and Randy Stead.
Honorary pallbearers will be Johnny Cummins, Dan Ashley, John T. Mullins, Jerry Combs, Julian Jones, Lavon Combs, Billy Havard and David Farr.
The family extends a very special thanks to the staff of Hospice Compassus of Natchez and his caregiver, Julian Jones.
The family requests that donations be made to the Roxie Baptist Church.
