NATCHEZ — Pleasant Acre Day School’s name has been thrown in the hat for a chance to win a healthy amount of volunteer hours and cash.

But the non-profit organization cannot win without the help of the community.

Pleasant Acre Day School — which is a day-treatment program for adult, trainable, mentally-challenged students — is a finalist in Regions Bank’s “What a Difference a Day Makes” program.

“We have so many loyal people here in the Miss-Lou,” Pleasant Acre Day School Director Mary Ann Foggo-Eidt said. “If everybody will just remember to think about the Pleasant Acres kids, we could pull this off.

Along with Pleasant Acre Day School, Regions Bank has selected 19 non-profit organizations throughout the United States and rewarded each entity with at least 50 volunteer service hours and $500 through the program.

In addition, Pleasant Acre Day School is currently competing in an online competition with the other selected non-profit organizations for a chance to receive 100 volunteer hours and $5,000.

“We have confidence, and we will do everything we can to see this through,” Foggo-Eidt said.

Foggo-Eidt said her dream would be to add more working space for the organization’s “Beads Galore” cottage industry, which could be done with additional volunteer hours and $5,000.

For almost 20 years, Pleasant Acres Day School has maintained a cottage industry of recycling Mardi Gras beads, which students would later sort, package and prepare for sale, giving them a sense of purpose and accomplishment.

“We absolutely have been so blessed with the beads that people have given us,” Foggo-Eidt said. “Our little beads galore shop has grown, and we need to grow with it.”

Voting began on June 1 and will continue until 5 p.m. Tuesday, June 30. Supporters are encouraged to vote as often as once a day.

Votes can only be conducted on a computer or tablet, not a mobile device.

“What a Difference a Day Makes” is a company-wide initiative in which Regions Bank provides all Regions associates a paid day off to volunteer in their community.

As part of the “What a Difference a Day Makes,” in 2014, Regions associates reported thousands of service hours supporting the missions or various community organizations.
