NEWELLTON, La. — Services for Thomas D. Hankins, 84, who died Monday, May 18, 2015, in Newellton, were Thursday, May 21, 2015, at First Baptist Church of Newellton with the Rev. Scott Byrd officiating.
Burial followed at the Legion Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Young’s Community Memorial Funeral Home in Winnsboro, La.
Mr. Hankins was born March 6, 1931, in Bay Springs, the son of James Wilson and Lexa Lois Barfield Hankins.
He was a member of First Baptist Church of Newellton and a cowboy at heart. He had great love for his family and was also responsible for most of the nonsense amongst the family.
He worked for a number of years in security and in law enforcement.
Mr. Hankins took a lot of pride in his service in the Korean War, in which he received a Purple Heart. He was never one to accept his disabilities and lived life to the fullest. He will be truly missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Debbie Dell Hankins; and one sister, Lois Riley.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby Hankins; five children, Lisa Tullos and husband, Tommy, Ty Anne Arnold and husband, Roger, Thomas Hankins Jr. and wife, Kathy, Ernest Hankins and wife, Corene, and Glynn “Mouse” Hankins and wife, Rhee; three brothers, James Hankins and wife, Pat, Robert Hankins and wife, Dorothy, and Bobby Dale Hankins and wife, Gladys; three sisters, Mary McRevy, Catherine Pelch and husband, Ronnie, and Katie Ruth Hamil and husband, Greg; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
