NATCHEZ — Melvin Pete has resigned as a teacher and head football coach at Natchez High School.
Pete was the head coach for the Bulldogs for just one year and led them to a 5-6 record.
“He tendered his resignation as a teacher as a result of his license being suspended,” Natchez-Adams school district spokesman Steven Richardson said. “The district was informed that his license had been suspended, and there was an out-of-state incident. In the district, you are required to be on staff to coach sports.”
Richardson said Natchez High is currently in the planning stages for how they will hire a new head coach.
“We haven’t made any decisions yet human resources will make that call,” he said. “As far as it being internal or external, they will decide that.”
Before coaching in Natchez, Pete was head coach at Central High School in Tuscaloosa, Alabama where he won a state championship in 2007.
Pete could not be reached for comments Friday.
