NATCHEZ — A Natchez resident reported receiving a phone call from an alleged scammer.
Dewanna Allgood, owner of DNL Allgood Computers, said she received a call at her home Tuesday night from someone claiming to be a Microsoft representative.
Much to the scammer’s surprise, Allgood knew better than to do as told and allow them access to her computer.
Allgood said she was told to allow the caller access to her computer so, she believes, they could infect her computer and then offer to fix it for a fee.
“Microsoft doesn’t call anyone for any reason under any circumstances,” Allgood said. “They are trying to steal credit card information from unsuspecting people.”
Allgood remained on the phone with the alleged scammer, and after informing him that she owns a computer company and was a Microsoft dealer, says the caller immediately hung up on her.
About a year ago, a similar scam was going on in the area, and Allgood said she had two or three customers call her after falling prey to phone scammers hacking their computer.
