CENTREVILLE — After missing out on bringing in the game-winning run in the final two innings of regulation play, Centreville Academy would not let another opportunity slip away.

Parklane scored one run in the top of the eighth inning to take a 5-4 lead. But in the bottom of the eighth, Ashton Crum doubled to bring in Braelon Bigner with the game-tying run and later Taylor Delatte singled up the middle to bring in Ariana Bigner with the game-winning run.

“We had some opportunities we didn’t make. But we got a clutch hit when we needed it,” Centreville head coach Mark Mann said.

The Lady Tigers scored one run in the bottom of the first inning and held their 1-0 lead until the Lady Pioneers tied the game in the top of the third inning. Parklane took advantage of a tiring Tori Rouse by scoring three runs in the top of the fifth inning for a 4-1 lead.

But Centreville rallied by scoring two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and one in the bottom of the seventh. Braelon Bigner had an RBI double in the bottom of the sixth. Yet in each inning the Lady Tigers let scoring opportunities slip away, costing them a chance to win the game without having to go extra innings.

“It was a nip and tuck game for four innings. Tori was real strong. She got a little tired in the fifth,” Mann said. “They beat the ball around. We also made an error or two. But she got out of it without more damage.”

Rouse allowed four runs on four hits through five innings of work.

Ariana Bigner pitched the final three innings for Centreville and did a good job keeping the Lady Tigers in the game. She allowed just one run on two hits, struck out four and walked none to pick up the win.

“I came back with Ariana. She’s been struggling. But she pitched good (Monday) night against Silliman and she did a good job tonight,” Mann said.

Haley Mann was the only multiple hitter for the Lady Tigers as she went 2-for-4. Wallace was 2-for-4 with a double and Adams went 2-for-3 to led the Lady Pioneers.

Centreville (14-5) travels to Clinton, La. to complete its postponed MAIS District 5-AA varsity game against Silliman Institute today at 6:30 p.m. The game started Monday afternoon, but was called due to inclement weather with the score at 0-0 with one out and nobody on in the top of the fourth inning.

Brookhaven Academy 11, Trinity Episcopal 8

BROOKHAVEN — The last time Brookhaven Academy and Trinity Episcopal faced each other back on Aug. 9, the visiting Lady Cougars scored 11 runs. Yet it wasn’t enough as the Lady Saints put up 12 runs.

Fast forward to Tuesday afternoon’s rematch between the two teams. Once again Brookhaven Academy, this time the home team, scored 11 runs. But this time around, the Lady Cougars made sure they were the ones who would be victorious.

Brookhaven Academy scored eight runs in the first two innings and led 9-1 at the end of three innings. Trinity Episcopal scored three runs in the top of the fourth inning to make it a 9-4 game, but the Lady Cougars got two of those runs back in the bottom of the fourth to go up 11-4.

The Lady Saints scored four runs in the top of the fifth inning, but the rally attempt fell a bit short as the Lady Cougars prevailed in this five-inning contest.

Katie Steele went 2-for-4 with a double and Julia had a double to lead the Lady Saints. Allie Livingston was 2-for-3 with a double and Meredith Allen went 2-for-2 for the Lady Cougars.

Trinity Episcopal (3-6) travels to Vicksburg to take on Porter’s Chapel on Thursday. The junior varsity game will start at 5 p.m. and will be followed by the varsity game at 6:30 p.m.
