NATCHEZ — Community members will have the opportunity Monday to get a review of the 2014-15 school year during the P16 Council’s final meeting.

The P16 Council will host a social gathering that will include refreshments at 4:30 p.m. Monday in the Steckler Multi-Purpose Building at Natchez High School.

The P16 Council, an acronym for preschool to higher education, is an independent, state-mandated entity formed last year to support the Natchez-Adams School District.

The P16 Council will give a breakdown of the work of its committees and Superintendent Frederick Hill will present the brief review.

“It will be a celebration of a successful school year, not only for the council, but also for the district,” said Steven Richardson, who is the district public relations coordinator.

The P16 Council is charged with the duty to build strong, healthy communities by helping to improve the school district, Richardson said.

During the gathering Monday, Richardson said Hill will bring recent accomplishments to the forefront and may be able to answer the questions of the community.

In addition, those who attend will be able to learn more about the committees involved with the P16 Council, including the public relations committee, community outreach committee, youth committee and cares and concerns committee.

“We really want the community to know what P16 is,” Richardson said. “We really want them to see first hand about what we are doing. Each person in attendance who has not been to a prior meeting will have the opportunity to go to each committee and learn what they do for the community.”

Richardson said the community outreach committee works with established organizations in the area to help support the district and build strong partnerships.

The cares and concerns committee takes in questions from curious community members and returns a response via personal contact or social media.

The youth committee works on planning activities for the area’s youth and how to help them.

The public relations committee focuses on spreading the message of the P16 Council.

Those who attend will also get the chance to join these committee groups, Richardson said.
