NATCHEZ — The Natchez-Adams County Metro Narcotics division is searching for suspects involved in a small-scale methamphetamine operation.

On Monday at approximately 11:30 a.m., the Natchez Police Department received a phone call about methamphetamine paraphernalia found in an uninhabited building behind Simmon’s Cleaners and Laundry, located at 123 St. Catherine St.

After receiving the call, the NPD passed the information along to Metro Narcotics.

Upon arriving at the scene, narcotics agents found several two-liter plastic bottles used to make meth.

No meth was found at the scene.

Metro Narcotics Commander Maj. David Lindsey said after examining the evidence, Metro Narcotics notified representatives with the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, who sent down several agents to collect the evidence.

Lindsey guessed one gram of meth was made at the site — which has about a $100 to $120 street value.

“We encounter these simple operations about four to six times a year,” Lindsey said.

A small-scale operation is commonly referred to as a “one-cook operation,” Lindsey explained, because it’s made once for a “quick fix.”

And because meth is becoming more readily available throughout the United States, he said “meth labs” — a larger-scale operation — are becoming less common.

“Now, it’s being flooded out of Mexico,” Lindsey said of the highly addictive drug.

Thursday, Lindsey said Metro Narcotics has a few suspects linked to the incident, but no arrests have been made.
