Whether you like them or not — I personally love them — silent auctions are an excellent way to have an opportunity to be introduced to artists, shops, places and events that would otherwise escape your attention.

Silent auctions stimulate the viewers imagination; for, as each item or grouping is viewed, your mind instantly transports you to the bed and breakfast, gallery, carriage ride, salon, restaurant, painting, etc. being presented for your consideration; it is a temporary, refreshing escape from reality. But, silent auctions are somewhat uncertain; for, their success depends upon the generosity of others.

The silent auction during the seventh annual Standing Ovation Awards Gala Saturday, July 17 at Natchez Little Theatre was highly successful and displayed a delightful array of treasures just waiting to be taken home by the highest bidder.

We were most fortunate to be the recipient of the kindness of many local, out-of-town, and out-of-state business owners and individuals. Natchez Little Theatre extends the biggest academy-award winning thank you possible to them for their making this silent auction one of the most successful to date.

As individuals arrived for the gala and mingled, they enjoyed food that was absolutely superb. People could hardly chat with others; for, each selection was so delightfully delicious. A hush fell over the room as everyone savored each morsel. Natchez is most fortunate to have many fine dining establishments and good cooks. NLT expresses the sincerest thank you to each local restaurant, board member and actor responsible for this magnificent fare and for being such a significant factor in the overwhelming success of the awards gala.

Of course, no big event is complete without flowers. Moreton’s Flowerland designed two theater-themed arrangements for the stage. These clever creations added an extra touch of elegance to the evening. Thank you so very much for sharing the beauty of flowers with us on this most special night.

A standing ovation and appreciation for making the continuation of quality entertainment possible at Natchez Little Theatre goes to each contributor.

NLT is one of the oldest community theaters in the South. Its longevity is understandable when generosity and local support are so eloquently defined as they were at this awards gala.
