ST. FRANCISVILLE, La. — The Vidalia Vikings season came to an end Thursday in the first round of the LHSAA Class 3A playoffs.

The Vikings fell 11-1 to West Feliciana to finish the season 15-7 overall.

“Today just wasn’t our day,” Vidalia head coach Kale Davis said. “It is tough to go down, but they played a better game.”

West Feliciana jumped out to an early lead, scoring three in the first inning and adding another in the second.

The Saints busted the game open in the third when they were able to plate seven runs.

“Yeah, they had a big third inning,” Davis said.

The Vikings only struck out three times at the plate and were able to put the ball in play, but the Saints didn’t make many mistakes.

“We hit the ball, but they made all the routine plays,” Davis said.

William Handjis took the loss on the mound for Vidalia, but Davis wasn’t displeased with his performance.

“Some of it was balls not being in the zone, or so we were told,” Davis said. “It got really tight on him and he had to serve up some pitchers he otherwise wouldn’t have. But, I can’t take anything away from them. They were the better team tonight.”

Davis has high hopes for the future of the program and believes they will be back to where they were next season.

“We’ve got a good group of underclassmen coming back,” Davis said. “We’re going to try to do better next season.”
