NATCHEZ — Services for Jessie Clark Jackson, 87, of Natchez, who died Friday, April 17, 2015, in Natchez, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church .
Burial will be Monday at the Natchez National Cemetery under the direction of West Gate Funeral Home.
Visitation will be at 5 to 5:45 p.m. today with a celebration of life wake service at 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Visitation will continue at 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.
Mrs. Jackson was born Sept. 9, 1927, in Natchez, the daughter of the Rev. B.J. Clark and Odessa W. Lacey.
She was a 1947 graduate of Brumfield High School.
Jessie attended Jackson State College and received a bachelor of science degree from Alcorn State College. She furthered her studies at Xavier University in New Orleans and Northwestern University. She was a retired teacher with the Natchez and Concordia Parish school systems.
Mrs. Jackson was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church where she served as church clerk, choir member and Sunday school teacher. She was also a member of the Southwest Retired Teachers Association.
Jessie enjoyed working puzzles, talking on the telephone and spending time with family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William Jackson; and one brother, Samuel Claiborne.
Survivors include three sons, Dantrell Simmons of Washington, D.C., Brendan Simmons, and the Rev. Melvin Jackson and wife, Irma, all of Natchez; three daughters, Vanessa Tillman and husband, Eddie, Kameshala Simmons and Patsy Jackson Simpson, all of Natchez; one goddaughter, Alberta Robinson and husband, David, of Natchez; two sisters-in-law, LeaEster Claiborne of New Orleans and Edith Jackson of Natchez; devoted friends, Thelma Hawkins, Alma Turner, Leola Russell, Dorothy Williams, Shirley Dickey, Helen Washington, Shiloh Baptist Church family, fellow educators of Southwest Mississippi Teachers Association; and other relatives and friends.
