YMCA could be answer to rec plans

The solution to Natchez-Adams County’s much-beleaguered recreation plans may be as simple as a four-letter word or at least a four-letter acronym.
Calm down. We’re not suggesting cursing, though for supporters of investing more into our community’s recreational endeavors, the lack of movement over the last year is enough to make one get frustrated.
We’re encouraged, however, that at least some of the talk about recreation complexes and the like seems to be shifting to include a discussion with leaders of the YMCA organization.
Although very early in the process, they say, community recreation enthusiasts and city and county leaders have been discussing options.
We’ve long suggested that the YMCA could be a great home and management for any public swimming pools that may be built soon.
We hope those discussions continue publicly to determine if the option is a viable one or not.
In the meantime, however, Adams County and the City of Natchez continue to work in different directions on recreation — each content that they’re doing enough for their constituents.
Time will tell if county voters — later this year — and city voters in 2016 are interested in electing representatives who will not only pledge to work together, but who are actually capable of doing so.
