Lanes to be closed on river bridge

NATCHEZ — Alternating lanes will be closed on the westbound side of the U.S. 84 bridge beginning today.
Closures will be in place from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m. daily though July 3.
Loads will be restricted to 11 feet wide during closure times.
Michael Flood, Mississippi Department of Transportation public relations officer, said the state is preparing for a more extensive bridge repair involving the replacement of pins and links on the bridge.
“Basically, this is just for the preliminary work to get the bridge ready,” Flood said.
And while no definite timeline has been set for future bridge repair, Flood guessed it would happen within the next few months.
“Really, we just want to remind motorists to look out for our workers when they’re traveling on the bridge,” Flood said. “There will be a lot of people out there getting the bridge prepped, especially on the westbound side.”
Flood said these are routine repairs that MDOT commonly performs.
