FERRIDAY — Trinity Episcopal Day School put the ball in play against Delta Charter Friday night, but the only problem was the Storm provided great defense behind its pitching.
Trinity amassed six hits in the first game of a double header with Delta Charter, but was only able to get one run across because of the Storm’s defense, leading to an 8-1 Delta Charter victory before another 4-1 victory by the Storm.
“This rain had us all bottled up so we came out with emotion,” Delta Charter head coach Jeannie Beach said. “We hit the ball well and we only made one error. Our defense is getting a lot stronger.”
Delta Charter led 2-1 heading into the third inning when Darby Beach hit an RBI triple. Jania Burns and Laken Hood followed with singles to put the Storm up 5-1 after the inning.
Burns picked up the win for the Storm in the first game, while Kailey Hutchins drew the loss.
In the 4-1 game that followed, Haley Sharp picked up the win, and the Storm was able to produce four runs despite recording three hits. Michaela Hutchins pitched for Trinity in the second game.
Delta Charter improves to 9-4 on the season, while Trinity falls to 0-5 in the spring.
Montgomery 1, Block 8
JONESVILLE — While the rain may have hindered many local coaches and local teams in the area, it actually helped out Block High School, allowing Taylor Perron-Krause to make two consecutive starts.
After pitching against LaSalle High School last week, rain postponements allowed Perron-Krause to take the mound in the Bears’ next encounter, and he made the most of it. Perron-Krause struck out 18 Montgomery batters in an 8-1 win Friday night.
“We rested him this whole week, and he was on today,” Block head coach Stevie McCarthy said. “It worked out in our favor. We have three district games next week, so he’ll probably throw one more game before playoffs.”
Perron-Krause did even more damage at the plate for the Bears, going 3-for-3 with a triple. Ronnie Littleton hit a double for the Bears in the win.
With the win, Block improves to 8-12 on the season and 3-4 in district.
Crystal Springs 1,
Franklin County 11
MEADVILLE — Sophomore DaMantre Collins was one hit shy of the cycle in an 11-1 Franklin County win against Crystal Springs.
Going 3-for-3 with a double, triple and home run, Collins was the leading offensive producer in the win.
“He hits with some power,” Franklin County head coach Brent Calcote said. “He has a hot bat right now, and we’re hoping he can carry that into the playoffs.”
Dalivan Hunt picked up the win for the Bulldogs. Hunt struck out five and gave up four hits in five innings of work.
Antonio Christmas recorded a double in the win.
Franklin County improved to 10-5 on the season.
