Tremendous rains of a week ago seemed to have ushered in slightly cooler temperatures, at least for now.

It’s not cool, but it’s not scorching either, so for that, we are thankful.

A few other things gave us reason to give thanks last week. Let’s review a few.

The Alcorn State University Extension Program at the Natchez Farmer’s Market hosted a creative, fun event Saturday morning — melon carving. Chefs and artists alike attended, creating watermelon baskets and more. The Farmer’s Market has become a great community partner, and in addition to the great food, we love their presence.

A few volunteers spent Saturday sprucing up a portion of the Watkins Street Cemetery. We are thankful a small but dedicated group of locals have continued to make this cemetery a priority.

Who knew a funeral could be so fun? Trinity Episcopal Day School students learned a valuable lesson and had fun at the same time Friday at a mock funeral for slang words. Tears, black shawls and a grave made the experience one we hope students will remember.

Jacari Williams is a Ferriday High School student who is focused on his goals. A top student, athlete and engineer-to-be, Williams is setting an example his peers can follow.

As we begin a new week with new excitement surely to come, we know that life in the Miss-Lou will continue to shine, rain or not.
