NATCHEZ — For the second day in a row, heavy rain and thunderstorms rumbled into and through the Miss-Lou area. And for many local and area baseball and softball coaches, this was the last thing they needed to see.

Especially those who have had to cancel non-district games so they can get their last few district games in.

Unlike on Monday when the inclement weather was confined to parts of central Louisiana, this wave hit much of central and south Mississippi as well as most of Louisiana, which forced several district games to be postponed and non-district games in both sports to be canceled.

Cathedral’s non-division home softball games against Loyd Star were canceled. Lady Green Wave head coach Gary Blackwell said the junior varsity and varsity games will not be rescheduled. The same can also be said for three other non-division games — Darbonne Woods at Delta Charter, Mangham at Monterey and the regular-season finale for Natchez High at Vicksburg.

Two district games that were affected by the bad weather were Franklin County’s home games against MHSAA Division 7-3A opponent Tylertown and Block’s home game against LHSAA District 3-1A foe Montgomery.

The Tylertown-Franklin County games will take place today with the varsity game at 5 p.m., followed by the JV game. The Block-Montgomery game has been rescheduled for today at 4 p.m. today.

While all of Tuesday’s softball games were rained out, some local baseball teams had to wait until after 2 p.m. to find out if their games had the same fate. They did.

Cathedral’s MHSAA Division 7-1A game at rival St. Aloysius in Vicksburg with division championship ramifications for both teams has been postponed until a day and time to be determined, Green Wave head coach Craig Beesley said. The Green Wave play host to the Flashes Thursday with the varsity game at 7 p.m.

Natchez High’s important MHSAA Division 6-5A game at Wingfield High School in Jackson with possible playoff implications for both teams was postponed until next Tuesday at 5 p.m. The Bulldogs play host to the Falcons on Friday at 5 p.m.

Vidalia’s tentatively-rescheduled-for-Tuesday’s games at LHSAA District 3-3A opponent Caldwell Parish in Columbia, La., have once again been changed, Vikings head coach Kale Davis said. Now the games will take place today with the JV game at 4 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 6 p.m.

Delta Charter’s game at Ouachita Christian School in Monroe, La. was also postponed until 4 p.m. today.

Block head coach Stevie McCarthy had to do some reshuffling of his scheduled because the Bears’ home game against District 3-1A opponent Montgomery was postponed. Their game at St. Mary’s in Natchitoches, La. that was originally rescheduled for Saturday will now take place at 4 p.m. today. Their game against Montgomery will take place Friday at 4 p.m.

Monterey’s game at LHSAA District 6-B foe Grace Christian in Alexandria, La. was also a no-go and has been rescheduled for at 6 p.m. today.

Franklin County’s game at MHSAA Division 7-3A opponent Crystal Springs was called off due to the weather. It has been rescheduled for next Monday at 4 p.m. The Bulldogs play host to the Tigers on Friday with the JV game at 5 p.m. and the varsity game at 7 p.m.
