Join in on plant sale excitement

The Adams County Master Gardeners are so excited about our upcoming annual spring plant sale on Saturday, and we want to invite you to share the excitement with us.

The RiverStock Festival is also that day on the bluff. There will be plenty of events, live entertainment and fun for the whole family.

Our plant sale starts early at 8 a.m. and we will be located on the bluff in front of the Grand Hotel. This is our largest fund-raising event and our talented gardeners have put their green thumbs to work over the previous weeks, propagating, rooting, transplanting and nurturing many different plants for sale.

Let me give you some examples of what we have to offer: Heirloom roses, larkspur, day lilies, shrubs, various trees, verbena, marigolds, salvia, various ferns, bedding plants, ground covers, herbs; literally hundreds of choices.

In addition to plants, we will also be offering unique, handmade items for sale, including hummingbird feeders, bird houses, and trellises.

We will also offer snow cones for sale in our snow cone booth, and last but not least, we will have gardening literature on site. Please come early, as we expect to sell out quickly.

Master Gardener volunteers will be on hand to answer any questions about the plants to make informed choices and get your new plants off to a great start. Free gardening information from the Mississippi State Extension Service will also be available on many topics, including butterfly gardening, vermicomposting, herb gardening, lawn management, pruning, garden pests, straw bale gardening and fire ant control.

You can also pick up a soil-sampling box here from the MSU Soil Testing Laboratory to have the lab determine PH levels in your soil for a small fee.

While you are out and about that day, please take a stroll along the bluff and check out the garden around the gazebo. Master Gardeners recently had a great morning working in the garden, weeding, planting new flowers and mulching, giving it a spring makeover. We hope you enjoy our efforts, as it truly is a labor of love for us.

All of us with the Master Gardeners hope to see you early at 8 a.m. on Saturday.

It promises to be a great day of fun and entertainment for all as we get out and experience Natchez.
