NATCHEZ — Madison Delaney, an eighth grader at Cathedral School, will deliver handmade personalized Easter cards to every resident at Magnolia Village this weekend.

“I know that most of the people living in senior homes don’t have family members close or at all,” Delaney said. “I wanted to do this because I wanted to give them a little happy for the Easter Holiday.”

Delaney, who lives in a neighborhood near the facility came up with the idea and contacted the director to ask for permission on her own.

Madison’s mother, Sara Delaney, said she supports her daughter’s idea.

“I was out of town when she decided to do this project,” Sara said. “I think it is a wonderful idea.”

Do-it-yourself projects have always held a special place in Madison’s life.

“I enjoy looking for projects online,” Delaney said. “I look at Pinterest a lot, and I even have a corner of my room designated just for my projects.”

Once Delaney got an email from the director of the village, she went to purchase the materials needed to make the cards.

Each of the 44 residents will get a uniquely designed card.

“The structure of the cards will be similar, but each will have different colors,” Delaney said. “I designed the ladies cards on pink pastel paper, and the men’s on blue pastel paper.”

While Delaney enjoys doing crafts, she has never done a project like this before.

“I had never done something this big before,” Delaney said. “I think I would like to continue to do it, and maybe even do something similar on other holidays as well.”

Madison said the cards are more personal than store-bought cards and the design is her own creation.

“I am excited to deliver the cards to the residents, and I have decided I will go door-to-door rather than in an assembly,” Delaney said. “I have not decided if I am going to go alone or if my mom will go with me.”

Madison attends Grace Methodist Church and is student of Ballet at Natchez Ballet. She plans to attend ULM and become an event planner.
