Wilkinson County 20, Crystal Springs 12
WOODVILLE — Despite an off-night throwing the ball, Brian Montgomery had two short touchdown runs and Brandon Horton had 176 yards rushing and one touchdown as the Wildcats defeated the Tigers for their third win of the season.
Montgomery completed just 6 of 18 passes for 80 yards. However, he made up for that with a 1-yard touchdown run in the first quarter and a 2-yard scoring run in the fourth quarter to give Wilkinson County (3-2) a 16-0 lead.
A sack by Bryan Cheathman which resulted in a safety in the second quarter was sandwiched in between.
Horton, who had nearly 30 carries in the game, scored on a 10-yard run in the fourth quarter to put away Crystal Springs (0-5).
South Pike 28, Jefferson County 0
MAGNOLIA — Even though South Pike has struggled this season to a 1-3 start, the Eagles got back on track with a shutout win over the Jefferson County Tigers Friday night.
Bastrop 32, Block 12
BASTROP, La. — Two miscues on special teams turned out to be Block’s undoing as the Bears lost to the Rams, the No. 8 team in Class 4A, Friday night.
“We scored on our first possession. We kicked off, they ran in back for a touchdown. We fumbled on the (ensuing) kickoff and gave it to them on the 5. It turned just that quick,” Block head coach Benny Vault Jr. said.
“It was not like the score indicated. I feel good about the game. Second half it was 6-6,” Vault added. “It took its toll. We got some kids banged up. It was a physical game. They played on our side of the field most of the night and that hurt us.”
Avoyelles 28, Vidalia 26
VIDALIA — In a battle of winless teams at Vidalia’s homecoming game, the Vikings fell just short, losing by two points to the Mustangs in the District 3-3A opener for both teams.
Vidalia fell to 0-4 overall and 0-1 in district play while Avoyelles improved to 1-3 overall and 1-0 in district play.
