Vidalia (softball) 19, Marksville 1
MARKSVILLE, La. — After a pair of close, low-scoring wins in their final two games of their own tournament last Saturday, it did not take long for the Vidalia Lady Vikings’ bats to get going in a 19-1 three-inning dismantling of the Marksville Lady Tigers Monday afternoon in an LHSAA District 3-3A game.
Vidalia put up six runs in the top of the first inning and added eight more runs just an inning later before Marksville finally scored its only run of the game in the bottom of the second. The Lady Vikings finished off the Lady Tigers with five runs in the top of the third.
The Lady Vikings had just seven hits, but that was because Marksville pitchers Haley Hallmeyer and Gabby Savoy walked 12 total batters. Hallmeyer took the loss after giving up 14 runs on five hits and 11 walks in two innings. Savoy allowed five runs on two hits and one walk to go with one strikeout.
Leading the way for Vidalia at the plate was Katlyn McCarver, who went 2-for-2 with a triple and three runs batted in. Winning pitcher Taylor Rodgers was 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs while Katelynn Bertelsen was 2-for-3 with three RBIs.
Rodgers allowed one run on one hit with two strikeouts and one walk in two innings. Cassie Gonzales came on in relief to pitch the third inning and allowed one hit and walked one.
