NATCHEZ — Thanks to two eagles during the middle of their round, Gary Farmer, Jordan Farmer and Bill McKenzie held on to win the seventh annual Boys & Girls Club Golf Tournament Friday afternoon at Beau Pré Country Club.
The trio of Farmer, Farmer and McKenzie teamed up to shoot a round of 16-under-par 56 despite having four pars. It helped that the winning team, which started on No. 1, had eagles on the par-5 8th and the par-5 10th holes.
“The par-3s were playing tough today,” Jordan Farmer said.
“We made a couple of long putts, and made a long putt for eagle on 10. We never got in any trouble, and always had a good birdie putt.”
The team of Dr. Kofi Kumi, Lloyd Trisler and K.G. Watkins finished one shot back in second place at 15-under-par 57.
Dr. Jeff Anderson, Robin Punches and Bill Lambert shot an 11-under-par 61 and won third place in a scorecard playoff over Jose’ Oakley, Thurman Gloss and Henry West.
Forty-one players participated in this year’s three-man scramble (there was one two-man team).
This is one of two major fundraisers the Boys & Girls Club hosts annually.
No one made a hole-in-one to win the Dodge truck that was donated by Heritage Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep.
