jonesville — After taking a tough loss Wednesday to open district play, the Block Bears took the diamond again in hopes of redemption.
What they got was a little different, as St. Mary’s rolled out of Jonesville with a 10-1 win.
“We had high hopes to compete in district,” Block head coach Stevie McCarthy said. “It is pretty heartbreaking to lose two in a row, but our seniors showed heart tonight. We are going to be all right and bounce back a lot better.”
It didn’t take long for St. Mary’s to take command of the game, racking up a 4-0 lead after three innings and then continuing to push runs across the plate with three in the fifth and two more in the sixth.
Block’s lone run came in the bottom of the seventh on a base hit from Taylor Perron-Krause, which scored Vyn’Quez O’Steen.
Next up for Block is a road test against Buckeye today and McCarthy said his team will be ready.
“Our spirits are always up,” he said. “We take things one game at a time and focus on our next game. The district we are in is very competitive and it is anybody’s game at any time.”
