NASD Parent University was a success

It takes a village, some believe, to raise children.
One thing is certain: Children with parents who participate actively in their education often are more successful in school and life.
Kudos to parents who took time out of their busy days Saturday to attend the Natchez-Adams School District’s Parent University session.
Each Parent University session covers different topics. Saturday’s taught parents how to help their students prepare for tests and showed them how to engage students at home in math through creativity, such as creating different geometric shapes using rubber bands, marshmallows and toothpicks.
For parents, helping children with homework, particularly math homework, can be intimidating. Who hasn’t heard each generation of parents complain about the “new math” being taught to their children? Programs such as the Parent University arm parents with tools to confidently help their children succeed.
Kudos, too, to school district staffers for developing this and other programs to help parents become involved with their children’s education.
Such programs aim to make partners of parents in the business of education, which will make the Natchez-Adams School District — and ultimately our community — stronger and its students more successful.
