NATCHEZ — Teens will get the tools they need to succeed this weekend during the fifth annual teen summit.
Cloudy skies and chances of showers will remain throughout the weekend with temperatures in the upper 60s.
Teen Summit
The fifth annual Teen Summit will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday at the Alcorn State University School of Nursing Natchez campus.
The program will serve as an empowering tool to enrich the lives of today’s youth, while assisting in developing leadership skills and attitudes to provide today’s youth with avenues to solve problems relative to the community, program chairperson Alma H. Fletcher said.
Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and the event is open and free to all teenagers and youth in the Miss-Lou area.
The summit will also give area youth the chance to discuss science, technology, engineering and math.
Zeta Delta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. is sponsoring the event.
Alcorn State University School of Nursing is located on 15 Campus Drive in Natchez.
Word of Faith Outreach
Word of Faith will host the 1965 Parchman victims at 2 p.m. Friday at the church.
This is open to the public, Betty Cade said.
Parchman, also known as the Mississippi State Penitentiary, housed Natchez men and women who marched during the civil rights movement.
“These were people from Natchez who were arrested and taken to Parchman,” Cade said. “They were marching and were charged with parading without a permit.”
Cade said the Natchez men and women who were arrested endured cruel punishment inside the walls of Parchman.
The Parchman victims will share their experiences with the public.
