VIDALIA — Cole Cangemi hit a walk-off, two-run single in the bottom of the eighth inning as the Vidalia Vikings rallied from a 7-1 deficit to stun the Franklin Parish Patriots 9-8 Tuesday night.

After Vidalia took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, Franklin Parish appeared to have taken complete control of the game by scoring in three of the next four innings, including four runs in the top of the fifth.

However, the Vikings responded in a big way with three runs in the bottom of the sixth and three more in the bottom of the seventh to send the game into extra innings. After the Patriots plated one run in the top of the eighth, Cangemi came through in the clutch for the Vikings. Cangemi wound up going 3-for-4 with 3 RBIs.

Winning pitcher William Handjis was 2-for-4 and Tyler Sandifer was 2-for-5 with a double. Vidalia (8-0) next plays at 6 p.m. Friday against Harrisonburg at the Vidalia High Tournament.

Brookhaven Academy 8, ACCS 3

NATCHEZ — The Brookhaven Academy Cougars defeated the Adams County Christian School Rebels 8-3 Tuesday night in an MAIS District 5-AA game.

Zack Dickerson picked up the win for Brookhaven Academy while Wade Simpson took the loss for ACCS. Simpson had a double for the Rebels. Madison Smith had a double for the Cougars.

ACCS (1-4, 1-2) plays at Brookhaven Academy at 7 p.m. Friday.

Monterey 10, Avoyelles 0

MONTEREY — Jake Cooper and Kade Passman combined to pitch a no-hitter with 14 total strikeouts as the Monterey Wolves took care of the Avoyelles High School Mustangs 10-0 Tuesday afternoon in five innings.

Cooper pitched the first four innings and struck out 11 Avoyelles batters while walking three batters to pick up the win. Passman finished off the Mustangs by striking out the side with no walks in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Riley Duncan had a big game at the plate for the Wolves as he went 2-for-2 with a home run and three runs batted in.

Monterey (3-1) next plays at 4 p.m. Thursday at Rapides.

Bogue Chitto 8, Natchez High 1

BOGUE CHITTO — Bogue Chitto had just two hits and Natchez High’s defense committed just one error, yet the Class 1A Bobcats still ended up defeating the Class 5A Bulldogs 8-1 Tuesday night.

Dalvion Jackson was charged with the loss. Natchez High pitching ended up walking 14 batters in the game and that was a big factor in the outcome. Another was the performance of winning pitcher Steven Ginn, who held the Bulldogs to just four hits.

One of those hits was a solo home run by Jackson in the top of the fourth inning. Jackson ended up going 2-for-3 at the plate.

Natchez High (3-1) begins MHSAA Division 6-5A play on Friday when it hosts Pearl River Central at 7 p.m.

Delta Charter 13, Mangham 11

MANGHAM, La. — Trey Poole went 3-for-4 with two runs batted in and three stolen bases as the Delta Charter Storm held on for a 13-11 win over the Mangham Dragons Tuesday afternoon.

Trenton Miller got the win on the mound for Delta Charter as he went three innings with one strikeout. Dawson Woodruff pitched the fourth inning and struck out two batters. Freddie Mango came on in relief for the final three innings and struck out six.

The Storm put up five runs in the top of the first inning and three runs in the top of the fourth to keep Mangham in catch-up mode. Cameron King and Lee Lancaster each went 2-for-4 with a double with King driving in two runs and Lancaster bringing in one run.

Delta Charter (2-0) next plays at the Franklin Parish Tournament in Winnsboro, La., which is scheduled to start on Thursday.

Trinity at WCCA postponed

WOODVILLE — A shortage of umpires caused Tuesday afternoon’s MAIS District 7-A varsity game between the Trinity Episcopal Saints and the Wilkinson County Christian School Rams to be postponed.

The two teams will are now scheduled to play each other in a varsity doubleheader at WCCA on Friday with game times set for 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. Trinity Episcopal will be the home team in the first game and WCCA will be the home team in the second game.

Sicily Island at Block postponed

JONESVILLE — An umpire shortage forced Tuesday afternoon’s non-district game between the Sicily Island Tigers and the Block Bears to be postponed. The game is now scheduled to take place today at 3:30 p.m. – if the weather permits. Rain is forecast to return to the area late this afternoon.

Vidalia (softball) 1, Caldwell Parish 0

COLUMBIA, La. — Taylor Rodgers pitched a no-hitter and drove in the only run of the game in the top of the first inning to lead the Vidalia Lady Vikings to a 1-0 win over the Caldwell Parish Lady Spartans Tuesday afternoon in an LHSAA District 3-3A game.

Rodgers struck out seven batters and came close to pitching a perfect game. She committed an error on an attempted bunt and walked one batter.

In the top of the first, Cassie Gonzales led off with a bunt single and Katelynn Bertelsen laid down a bunt single to Gonzales in scoring position. Rodgers then singled in Gonzales to give the Lady Vikings a 1-0 lead.

Vidalia (3-1, 1-1) plays host to district opponent Marksville today at 4 p.m.

Warren Central 6, Cathedral 3

NATCHEZ — The Cathedral Lady Green Wave was done in by five costly errors and an astonishing 13 players left on base as it lost to the Warren Central Lady Vikings 6-3 Tuesday night.

Warren Central trailed Cathedral 3-2 after five innings of play before taking the lead for good with a three-run rally in the top of the sixth inning. The Lady Vikings added another run in the top of the seventh.

Darby Gain worked herself out of several jams to get the win despite allowing seven hits and walking four batters over seven innings. Marty Lewis took the loss even though she held Warren Central to just four hits and walked only one batter. Mackenzie Watts went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.

Cathedral (3-3) plays host to St. Aloysius on Thursday at 6 p.m.

Mangham 12, Monterey 0

MANGHAM, La. — One day after the Monterey Lady Wolves shut out the Block Lady Bears 12-0 in five innings, the same fate was handed to the Lady Wolves as they were dealt a 10-0 loss to the Mangham Lady Dragons Tuesday afternoon.

Monterey was down just 4-0 to Mangham in the fourth inning before the Lady Dragons took advantage of several miscues by the Lady Wolves that would put the 10-run mercy rule in effect after five innings.

Monterey (2-3) will be on the road again on Thursday at 5 p.m. when it plays at Forest.
